This position is the assistant metrologist in a nationally recognized laboratory performing beginning level mass and volumetric calibrations on weighing and measuring testing equipment.
Train in-person at the National Institute of Standards & Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland with all expenses paid.
Become a member of the Northeastern Regional Measurement Assurance program and the National Conference on Weights & Measures.
Attend regional and national meetings hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Perform inspections and calibrations for compliance with NIST handbook 105 series, ASTM E617, and OIML R111.
Candidates should have a good grasp of Microsoft Excel and will be expected to perform algebraic and statistical calculations to determine standard deviations, uncertainties, and mass and volume corrections.
Accurately complete data entry into calibration certificates and invoicing for customers.
Candidates must also be able to lift up to 50 lb.

Schedule customer equipment into the laboratory workflow.
Work in a variety of settings, including office, laboratory, and occasionally outdoors.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Training:
Graduation from a standard four-year high school or the equivalent.
Training for the area of Metrology:
Graduation from a standard four-year high school.
Experience:
Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience.
Substitution:
An Associate degree from an regionally accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.
Substitution for the area of Metrology:
An Associate degree from an regionally accredited college or university which includes six hours in algebra may be substituted for the required experience.
Special Requirement:
Must possess a valid driver's license.
